Summer by the Sea

Last weekend, I spent four days at the farm. I enjoyed reading on the porch, baking bread, and making red shiso juice. The weather was lovely, if somewhat hot!

I finally cleaned my kitchen floor which I had really dreaded but it’s a good feeling when you tackle such a job and finish it!

The rainy season is finally over and so i aired the futons outside. The old house was musty and damp, but it is a bit better now.

Let me share the recipe for    Shiso Drink.July14 028

1.8 liters of water, Heated to boiling

Add the leaves and return to a good boil. Turn off . Let set for 10 minutes and strain. Add

We visited the Kido farm and thanks to them, we could thresh Hiroo’s organic wheat. This is bread flour, or kyoriki-ko.

We enjoyed having tea at their sprawling old farmhouse! Look at the retro fan he has! Later in the day, Hiroo barbecued Jerk Chicken for us. Unfortunately, Kanae was busy that evening so Kido Papa came alone. The Jerk Chicken is my sister-in-law’s recipe and it is very good! Of course we ate on the outdoors!

On Saturday, I had a record turnout for English Bible class…9 people came! Hiroo made sushi for all 11 of us for lunch. It was nice.

I was especially glad to see Tomoko again. We met in the hospital in June. She is facing more chemo but has a positive attitude. We sat on the veranda and talked most of the afternoon. I was so thrilled that she made the effort to find our place and come and see me!!

Tomoko and I had a nice chat!

The chicken looks so goooood! I’ve heard a lot about the recipe recently, but I’ve not had the chance to try cooking it myself. ^^

    とてもお元気そうですね!
    赤シソのジュース、鹿児島でもご近所さんにおすそわけしてもらい、いただきました。なんとなく味がちがうような・・・ 作り方のちがいでしょうか・・・
